Evidence of An Extraordinary Life

Your life today reflects past thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. If you’re in love with that person looking back at you when you stare in the mirror, pat yourself on the back. Great job!! You’ve been feeding your soul, and it shows -- which is a good thing! On the other hand, if you’re unhappy with the outward appearance of you or circumstances in your life, it’s time to make a change. No matter how you feel, journaling about “all that’s good in your life” is a sure-fire way to fall deeply in love with you. And, when you do, you’ll love everything about your life (or at least discover how to create a lifetime of happiness)!

I’ve coined the phrase “Book of Evidence” to describe this extraordinary journaling experience because the thoughts and feelings you’ll capture in its pages are only to reflect that which is extraordinary about YOU! This journal is to serve as a reminder of the blessing that you are to others, a spirit given life to bring joy to others through your assigned gifts and talents. You’ll discover that the more you dwell on those thoughts and feelings, the more evidence you will encounter of your own greatest. It’s an effortless and enjoyable process that will fill your heart with joy. What’s incredible about the process is how the act of feeling good about your goodness brings about more goodness. Think of this as your own personal flywheel for creating a life that is filled with love and laughter, happiness, and self-satisfaction.

What You Need?

A journal book that you are attracted to. There are so many journals from which you can choose. Pick one that makes your heart skip a beat when you look at its cover. The pages inside don’t need to be formatted in any specific way. If you prefer to write on lined pages, get one with lines. If you are a free spirit and enjoy writing on unlined pages or dotted paper, choose the one that suits your fancy.

Where Do You Begin?

Where you are on the “happiness” spectrum will determine your starting point. If you are happy with the life you’ve created for yourself here and now, you are ready to jump into the deep end of the pool so to speak. In other words, you can skip the “Ignite Your Spark” steps and immediately start the journaling process!

Ignite Your Spark

If your spirit is dampened… in other words, you rate yourself as “just okay” on the happiness scale, below are some prompts to get you feeling better about yourself. Grab some paper and a pen or pencil. Find a quiet place where you can connect with yourself uninterrupted for 15 – 30 minutes. Write down your thoughts to one or more of these prompts.

  • Think about a past experience that had you “on Cloud 9.” What about that experience made you feel so happy?

  • What is something that you really want to experience in your lifetime? Why is this important to you. How will it make you feel to accomplish this goal?

  • Name 3 people (dead or alive) who you admire. What characteristics of those people do you find attractive?

  • Describe the most beautiful place you’ve ever visited. How did it make you feel?

  • If you could experience a “perfect day” in your life, what would it look like? Describe it in great detail. How does the thought of this experience make you feel?

Each of the journaling prompts are designed to evoke the feel-good hormone, dopamine, and thereby shift your energy upward on the “happiness scale” to a greater feeling of well-being. Your entries in your Book of Evidence should be written when you are in a state of well-being.

Important: If you’re feeling hopeless about your life, please consider seeking professional help and support; talk to someone right away. Not already plugged into a help and support group? You can always connect with someone through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 24 hours, 7 days a week by dialing 800-273-8255.

Time To Catalogue Your Evidence!

On the first inside page of your journal, write the words “Book of Evidence of My Extraordinary Life” and the date when you begin writing in the journal.

dated journal and a pencil

Beginning with the next blank page, you will write a journal entry for each day. Your entries should only focus on positive, good experiences you had on the date in question. At the top of the first page for each journal entry, write the date that coincides with the notes and feelings you capture. Each time you enter a record in your Book of Evidence, again you’ll trigger release of the feel-good hormone.

Making this a daily exercise is a great way of turbo charging joy and happiness in your life. The best time to perform this exercise is right before you go to bed. Why? Falling asleep with thoughts of happiness and joy in your mind will contribute to a more restful night’s sleep. Besides, you are giving your mind a very powerful message that you want more of the same.

Challenge For You

Make an entry in your Book of Evidence journal every day for 30 days. At the end of the 30-day period, look back over your journal. Review your entries. How does it make you feel to look-back over this evidence of your life?
